First thoughts after watching Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 18
This note includes a spoiler, and not only about this episode.
I watched Re:Zero season 4 episode 18 twice.
The Volcanica Emilia faced was like an NPC in a game. It just kept repeating the same lines and tried to protect the pillar behind it. When Emilia got close to the pillar, she had to fight it. She used ice magic to create and summon her knights, and all of them are Subaru. She's a girl in love.
Subaru and Meili were fighting against Shaula's scorpion. And I wondered how he would fight it, but he was just trying to stop the scorpion, maybe unless it doesn't resist them? But the scorpion's attack shot Meili in the stomach. It seemed that Subaru would take on her damage with his new authority, Cor Leonis, but no such scene was animated.
The entire rest of this episode was about the fight between Ram and Gluttony. Subaru got his new authority, Cor Leonis, so he was able to take Ram's burden instead, and Ram was able to keep fighting against Gluttony. When did he remember this authority and how? There was no such scene. Maybe he learned it when the two of them merged, or while he was in the Corridor of Memories?
Anyhow, Ram was able to fight a lot longer than she used to. In the past, she lost her mana and stamina very quickly and couldn't fight for a long time at all. And knowing this, after fighting for a short period, Gluttony went to where Rem was, because he thought she couldn't catch up with him. But she was able to catch up with him and hit him. However, he was able to transform into Rem and she was blown away and then her rod was broken. But then, she realized that she and Rem shared everything, too. And it looks like the rod itself was actually made from her original horn? So, after that, she used Rem's power to fight him. She was originally a genius among the demons, so she overwhelmed him completely.
The fight scene between them was great. I wondered why they could fly so easily, but Ram can use her wind magic so she can fly and it made the fight interesting, especially on the huge spiral staircase in the tower. I didn't get what he drew on the wall at the end, but maybe it was love or something? Anyway, he got what he deserved. Because he pulled some memories from his body, does that mean many people's memories were back? Also, Ram's memories of Rem were coming back and her feelings toward Rem were coming back, too, even though it was not complete in this episode.
Also, I'd always wondered what Ram was thinking back when her horn was broken. Rem thought it was finally broken and was kinda relieved, and Rem blamed herself all along in her life for that relief. But Ram thought the same thing. Because Ram and Rem shared emotions and so on, as Ram explained in this episode, Ram might've also felt what Rem thought. Rem always thought and said Ram was the best, and Ram was proud of herself too, for example.
So, there are still 2 things remaining: Emilia's exam in the tower and Subaru fighting against the scorpion to break Shaula's curse. Will these be resolved? Also, will the memories of Julius and Emilia come back, and will Rem wake up? Those things should happen in the next episode.
Scores
- Episode: 9/10
- This episode is one of the best episodes for Ram. And also the episode for Ram and Rem. There was another best episode for her in season 2, but this episode also included her past.
- Emilia: 8/10
- She is a girl who loves Subaru. Her magic gets creative too.
- Ram: 9/10
- She was no longer the girl who gets wiped out after using magic, thanks to Subaru and Rem.
- She defeated one of the Sin Archbishops by herself. Wasn't that a little too strong?
- Gluttony: 6/10
- What is this guy? But doing something others hate the most was the most classic villain thing he did.
- This guy made Re:Zero interesting and entertaining til season 4 so he should be rewarded based on that.
