First thoughts after watching Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 12
This note includes a spoiler.
I watched the Re:Zero season 4 episode 12 twice.
So, Re:Zero season 4 was one of the most anticipated seasons I'd waited for. It started after Subaru returned by death 4 times in a short period of time in the tower of... What? Saint? And in the previous loop, he distrusted everyone because he was killed 3 times, but then he noticed everyone was really worried about him and he also was saved by Emilia from disappearing. So, it was pretty natural that he broke down in tears when he came back and saw Beatrice was alive. I forgot how she died in the previous loop, though. I remembered Meili, Foxidna, Julius, and Emilia.
The first thing he had to decide was how to handle his amnesia, and he decided to come clean about it. Honestly, he was very fluent while he was talking about his amnesia, so I felt the same way as Ram. He was too confident and suspicious. It still felt off to me that she cared about Rem a lot though she didn't have any memories of Rem. But considering that nobody but Subaru remembers Rem, Ram was relying on him when it came to Rem, who was supposed to be her sister, and someone Ram would have taken care of a lot, perhaps. Anyhow, Subaru communicated perfectly with Ram and made her believe he lost his memory. She had a sharp tongue as usual, but she trusted Subaru for sure because he cared about Rem and didn't give up. The animation of Ram slapping Subaru, somehow drawn from three angles, was... what? Maybe trying to show an unexpected, surprising thing. I liked how Ram looked down at Subaru after that scene.
Then there was another problem: someone had tried to kill Subaru. And he probably had figured out that it was Meili. Well, it was obvious, because who else? Obviously, no way Emilia, Beatrice, Ram, Rem, Julius, or Foxidna. So the only candidate was Shaula, which was unlikely because she seemed to be too straightforward a person. But I didn't realize she killed him because of Elsa. And I had already forgotten, but Subaru saw her past in the archive room, so he knew a lot about her. She was like a wild animal, and was raised by Elsa. So, as a wild animal, it didn't make sense that someone who had tried to kill a person would be forgiven by that person for no clear reason. So she hit the panic button, and tried to kill herself. Well, I didn't really sympathize with her throughout this episode or in the past. Anyhow, Meili was also forgiven by everyone else after Subaru explained her situation to them. Everyone seemed to trust Subaru too much at this point, so it felt a little off. But they may have thought that even without his memory, Subaru was a dependable guy, and they trusted what he said.
Then, Subaru suggested putting off looking for a solution to his amnesia. It felt a little off to me, but I noticed he wanted to make sure he wasn't left out of the trial with Reid, so that he could see what would happen, or what had happened in the previous loops. Also, he made a convincing argument, and Foxidna agreed with it. He was definitely still smart.
What will happen in the next episode? Probably another battle against Reid. And how will they win against him?
