Random thoughts after rewatching The Apothecary Diaries Season 1 Episode 7
This note includes a spoiler.
I rewatched Apothecary Diaries season 1 episode 7 twice.
The episode started the day after the garden party in the previous episode. I wondered where Maomao was sleeping in such a good bed, but it was one of the rooms in the Jade Pavilion.
It was rare that Maomao and Gaoshun talked about issues without Jinshi, so it felt odd to me. But Jinshi seemed to be wiped out, so Gaoshun needed to do it by himself. Also, it was originally her own request, so it made sense. Maomao thought Lady Lishu couldn't read the room at first, but she figured out it was because she was bullied. So, it was great that that first impression actually had a reason behind it. Jinshi also showed his lazy, easygoing side to Gaoshun. Yeah, that was a young man who acts sociable for other people. When Gyokuyou teased him, he was so upset and she found it so funny. It was nice to see her like that.
Lihaku was also a character who gave a hairpin to every girl but didn't take it seriously. Well, but he wasn't really a kind guy and he did that for... why? I don't know. Anyhow, that was good for Maomao, because she didn't care about him at all. She also negotiated well because she showed the hairpins she had received from other people, as if she had more options. In fact, the other two wouldn't have been interested in the same invitation. But he was a man, so he couldn't turn down an invitation to the Verdigris House. I also wondered whether her gift was too generous just to get herself home, but it turned out the madam had thought it through and wanted to attract more loyal customers.
Maomao's adoptive father wasn't surprised at all when he saw her. I guess the madam of the Verdigris House let him know what had happened to Maomao, because Maomao had been sending letters to her, not to him. So, he didn't look all that pleased, but he was quietly happy and listened to her.
I wonder how much of Maomao's conjecture is actually true. I don't remember what actually happened, so it's going to be fun to watch it.
