First thoughts after watching I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class Episode 3

This note includes a spoiler.

I watched I Made Friends with the First Second Prettiest Girl in My Class episode 3. 7/10. Well, Asanagi for sure can be the prettiest in the class, and also Maehara became friends with Amami and the story moved forward through her actions too.

The earlier part of this episode was, first, that Amami invited Maehara to lunch at school — alone at first, and then with Asanagi too — and second, that they went to Maehara's home. She talked loudly in class without caring about other people, as she always does, and that characteristic didn't match Maehara's personality. But he was alone before he met Asanagi in his class, so I guess he had mixed feelings toward her. Anyhow, she was kind enough to take his word seriously and tried not to invite many people to the lunch. It was good animation to see that Asanagi apologized by putting her hands together with her mobile phone, from a distance. I've never seen anything like this.

At the lunch, Maehara showed his great cooking skill. Somehow, characters like him have great cooking skills and help with their parents' work, not only in this anime, and he was way better than Amami and she lost her confidence. I wondered why Amami talked to him often, and what she said was he was nice and had his own opinions. Well, I thought it felt shallow, but maybe she was a girl who didn't hear any different opinions from others because everyone except her friends just flirts with her.

Because his cooking skill was good, they went to his house, and had a few things to eat. And she was unexpectedly good at playing games, so much that she even taught him how to play. Well, I guess this character is basically good at almost anything, more than other people, so she's just a capable person? But having an ability has nothing to do with being the prettiest, I guess, so this was how the author wanted her to be.

Then, while they were heading back, he turned down a phone call from Amami, saying he couldn't hang out with her because there was another one. I wasn't sure how Asanagi felt, but maybe Asanagi thought anyone would give priority to Amami over her. Or she wasn't confident about it. Then after hearing that he turned down, she went back to his home and just said a few words at the door of his house. From his perspective, it didn't make sense at all. So she couldn't stop her feelings and ran to his house to say something directly. It was cute.

The later half of this episode was about, first, Asanagi hanging out with him and sleeping over at his house, and second, them visiting her house.

Asanagi was so relaxed with him and they liked the same things, and they started reading the final volume of a manga at the same time, sitting close together. Then they fell asleep in his bed, and he slept in an awkward position. Well, obviously she was too relaxed, let her guard down, and they were dating already. Then after they woke up, instead of sending her home they slept over in the house with his mother. Where was his father? Was there any reason his father wasn't there? Anyhow, she borrowed his sweats and slept in a bed and finally talked about telling Amami about their relationship when there was a good chance. I guess Amami would find out about it beforehand and there would be trouble.

Then, because of that, they visited her home next so he was able to apologize. Her mother was there and wanted to ask him about the details of what happened between them. It was, well, interesting to her mother for sure, and no wonder that she also didn't want to tell her mother about them. So, she was also kinda a person who keeps things to herself. As expected, he was the first boyfriend of hers that her mother had met.

Lastly, in a classroom, a teacher tried to decide the members of the school festival committee and nobody volunteered. It was a little bit weird that neither Amami nor Asanagi volunteered. And then, Maehara was nominated, obviously. But then some classmates badmouthed him. So it seems he's mentally strong so he can somehow put up with being alone, but not strong enough to take that kind of thing. Well, most people wouldn't be. Asanagi quietly got mad, and then Amami was trying to question that badmouthing in front of the whole class.
