First thoughts after watching I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class Episode 2

This note includes a spoiler.

I watched I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class episode 2.

The episode started when a guy asked Asanagi out, and she turned him down and then he asked to exchange contact information but she also turned it down. That guy also tried the same thing with Amami, so they thought he was flirty. Then Amami and another girl tried to leave that place, but before leaving, somehow, Amami got Maehara's phone number. I was like, what? Why? Did they want to talk about Asanagi turning a guy down?

Anyhow, Maehara talked with Asanagi about the scene they had seen, when they played together in his house. She didn't care, and they also started talking about what being popular is like. She was popular, but he didn't want it because it got attention from others and you needed to care too much about other people. She thought he was a dweeb, and well, I kinda agreed with her, but apparently, he was right after watching the later part of this episode, because Asanagi was exactly the type of person he talked about. Anyway, they started playing games as usual. And surprisingly, that day was not the day they had talked about going out in the previous episode.

Then they went out together on Friday after school. Instead of going places together, they met up at the place, and they also changed their clothes from their school uniforms to their own clothes. Asanagi wore a short sleeve hoodie and jeans and Maehara wore a black shirt with the word "Destroy" on it and pants, and she said to him that it was too black and it stood out. She wanted to make him more fashionable next time, and that made him happy because it meant there would be a next time. Well, but he should've thought what kinds of clothes he would wear, I guess, because he probably wasn't used to it. He also told her it was bad that she had to cancel hanging out with her friends like Amami, and she said it was okay because she still did that on days other than Friday. But it was obviously a lie because they hung out together before when she turned down a guy's confession.

Anyway, they at first went to anime goods stores and it was new for her and she was interested but he didn't want to show it to her because, well, probably it wasn't something normal people were into. Then they went to have hamburgers but then the students from the same school saw them there and recognized her. So they started acting like a couple, which made the students misunderstand and think she wasn't Asanagi, because they couldn't believe Asanagi would be dating Maehara. But because they didn't like the gossip, they went to an arcade and played games. As usual, they had a lot of money for high school students. While Asanagi went to the restroom and Maehara waited on a bench, he happened to run into Amami and other 4 classmates. Then he suddenly called Asanagi, and I wasn't sure what he was trying to do, but it made sense that he wanted to let her know that Amami was there. Then he was trying to leave the place with his friend's bag. Well, he was supposed to be waiting for his friend, but he tried to leave before his friend even came back, so it must have looked to Amami like he was leaving because of her. Anyway, then Amami suggested hanging out together, and Maehara knew that Asanagi didn't want to meet them, so he was trying to turn her down. But she was stubborn and he learned that Asanagi sometimes wanted to stay away from her because she wanted to spend her own time, I guess. So he spoke plainly, said he didn't want to hang out with many people, and left. Asanagi caught up with him and thanked him.

And then, they took a train and went back to their homes and he was tired and went to sleep. But this was confusing to me. Taking trains, and a distance long enough for him to fall asleep, means they went far from home. But they met with a few classmates or students from the same school, so it should have been close enough. And also they changed clothes after school, so the places should have been close enough for that. So, this taking trains scenes felt weird. Maybe I'm overthinking it, and they just hung out together and went too far from their homes instead of hanging out in a small area, though.

Anyhow, then the other day, Amami apologized to him in a class while everyone listened, and she let slip that she had his phone number which she should've kept a secret. Every classmate got jealous and he had butterflies in his stomach. After a class, Amami, Asanagi and Maehara went back from a school together. Why Asanagi? No idea. Probably she insisted coming together. And why not another girl? No idea. Asanagi also pretended that she didn't hang out with Maehara often. So she was trying to follow them and he suggested going to his home. At his home, Amami wanted to apologize and then Maehara talked to Amami about something. I forgot what it was. Probably he was more comfortable being alone and there was some types of people like that to her. Then she agreed with him and complimented him, saying he was very kind to his friend, well, Asanagi. And she also heard it and blushed at it, so she suggested leaving his home with Amami.

So, in this episode, some scenes felt odd or had strange setups, but that's for the sake of the story the author wanted to write, so it was still good. And this slice-of-life anime is a little bit different from others in terms of rom-com, especially Asanagi and Maehara's relationship so far, so that part is also good. They also have something in common: they both love sharks, and sharks with angel wings.
