Random thoughts after re-watching Saga of Tanya the Evil episode 7

This note includes a spoiler.

I watched the Saga of Tanya the Evil season 1 episode 7. I watched this series a long time ago, and I liked it, but I forgot most of the story, so before the season 2, I decided to watch again.

This episode was no comedy but drama. At first, the story began from the point of Major in the Entente alliance. He said goodbye to his daughter, Mary, and wife because they left a city, and he got a christmas gift from Mary. That was a submachine gun, and he wore it.

Then, the PoV was changed to Tanya. She was trying to disagree with a plan of her high commander, who was trying to put full force into the Norden line despite her concerns of exhaustion and supplies. She even showed her dissatisfaction through her behavior, like pouring milk into her coffee messily and spilling it over her desk. Then she talked to 2 other high ranks, one of them was Rerugen, and talked about the benefits of full force to the Norden line, and correctly guessed what the true purpose of this attack of the Empire was. They planned to use that attack as a decoy and attack from the rear as a surprise attack. She was a logical employee in her previous life, so she was trying to find a rational answer behind the intent of the tactics, but Rerugen at least couldn't believe she was able to figure out this plan by herself. Because of this, or maybe planned from the beginning, 203rd battalion joined the campaign.

Tanya didn't like it, and she even had a backup plan for retreat in case she and the first lieutenant died. She didn't even empathize with her own people, but she was logical to think about these things too. Then they started attacks on the rear of the Entente Alliance, the fjord city or something. Their plan was to destroy all cannons in the port so battleships were able to come closer to the port, but the major of the Entente Alliance couldn't figure it out. And he had them destroy all of them. Tanya even took a risk to fight one battalion with one company, but her company somehow managed to defeat them. The major was actually the person who fought her in the Norden line in the 2nd episode, and he remembered her. So he was trying to take her down, but right before she killed him off, her battalion destroyed all canons. So instead of fighting, she decided to leave the city. Well, it was a little bit dangerous for her not to attack that major in front of her, because he could attack her, wasn't it? Maybe she was confident she could block his attacks completely. Anyhow, the Empire's battleships came, and the Entente Alliance couldn't stop them at all, so the battle was over, but the major didn't stop and tried to defeat Tanya. Of course, he couldn't do it and Tanya killed him. Then she found out his submachine gun was good, and decided to get it as her christmas gift. That's the difference between a normal person who got a present from his daughter, with a wish that she wanted her father back, and the so-called Devil Tanya, who got whatever she thought was useful. It wasn't that cruel as it was a war, after all.

Then the top brass of the Empire was glad of the success of this fight. But the Mary and her mother were crying in a place, who left from that city before it was attacked.

Watched 2nd time.

The BGMs when Tanya started attacking the Orse Fjord and left on a ship were probably ones for Tanya or the Empire, but they sounded like a boss BGM. On the other hand, the one for the major of the Entente Alliance, who was determined to attack Tanya, was like the important scene where a main character attacks. Throughout this anime, the Tanya was drawn as an evil for sure.

Tanya still had the mind of an employee and cared about her career, whether she lost her job, or could go back without overwork, on a battlefield. Well, technically, that might be right, but it sounded so wrong when you faced the life and death battle.

Also, it's obvious that the 203rd battalion is so strong and each of them could block attacks from others and didn't have any casualty in the Fjord, compared to the Alliance's battalion, who couldn't block the attacks except the major. That was a reason why she could defeat the battalion with a company.

If the Entente Alliance had more people in the city like the major had said, the result would've been different considering how long they took to break down cannons.
