Random thoughts after re-watching Saga of Tanya the Evil episode 1
This note includes a spoiler.
I watched the Saga of Tanya the Evil episode 1. I watched this series a long time ago, and I liked it, but I forgot most of the story, so before the season 2, I decided to watch again.
This anime was mainly for a war similar to the World War 1, and the Empire was from Germany, and the Republic was from France. But as it's a fantasy, there is a unit who can use a magic and they can even fly and use a magic power into a gun.
The main character Tanya Degurechaff was in the Empire side. The episode 1 started from the trench warfare of the west line in the Empire. The first, it showed how cruel the front line was and some soldiers were depressed due to the trench and some soldiers were dead. They even called there a living hell.
In the Tanya's unit, some soldiers had come to the front to fight and didn't even obey the order of the commander Tanya. Obviously, they didn't like her. She tried to dismiss them, but they didn't follow that either, so she ordered them to move to a rear. Well, obviously, she liked rules, orders, and didn't like exceptions, motivations, etc. She was like half as tall as other soldiers, so she was really a kid.
In the another day, Visha, who was one in the Tanya's unit, was exhausted and couldn't follow Tanya while flying to the front line. Tanya found out she was behind and gave her harsh words that she should leave or catch up then Visha followed catching up. Later, using Visha's exhaustion as an excuse, Tanya tried to ask the commander to avoid the fight. But Visha volunteered and insisted she was able to fight despite what Tanya said. So Visha was serious, and one who is a patriot, obviously.
Then Tanya decided to take out a Republic company, the 105th, iirc. That company had defeated the Empire's magic soldiers a lot so they underestimated any of them. But Tanya dodges any attacks, tried to take down its commander and failed, but still did so for some soldiers, and then fly to the 10,000 meters, which Republican's couldn't do. In order to fly high, I guess they should at least have the ability to deal with an atmospheric pressure, able to breathe with low oxygen, and deal with cold temperature, I guess. I guess breathe and temperature aren't usually a problem for these stories so I assume they were also able to deal with them by their magics. So, Republican's couldn't fly because of the atmospheric pressure. Then Tanya used telepathy to ask soldiers to surrender, and obviously they didn't, so she used some strong magic that could blow the entire company out. It was not as strong as an atomic bomb, but obviously it was way stronger than the normal bombs or guns and can kill not only by the explosions but also by carbon dioxide. Even Visha and others need to protect from the explosion's impact.
Some person even called her the Devil of the Rhine, not only from the enemies but also from within. And then Visha found out that Tanya ordered two men to go to the rear because they were going to be dead and Visha was scared about it. Well, she was definitely an intimidating girl for sure.
Watched again.
I noticed, this episode started that Tanya was like a fairy in the battle field, from what Visha thought, then ended that she was the monster in the form of a little girl. That was a great contrast in one episode. And also, it was 1924, so the war may continue for 10 years, assuming it had started 1914.
Also, I forgot, the Tanya didn't like the God at all. But her spell included a lot of the "praying to God" or whatever. Was she herself here? Or maybe not?
Also, the sound of the guns like artillery, rifle, or the sound of hitting them into the ground were great and real. They did a good job here. The animation of Tanya's big spell she casted when she was over 10,000 meters were, instead of visual effects from natures, they're more like mechanical with a lot of gears. That might be because she isn't natural at all.
Anyway, here is what I thought in the episode 1.
